Last week I spent 4 days with some incredible people in Orangeburg, SC including Andrea Yelton, Noreen Wingate, Dale Carlson-Bebout, Tracy Brower, Blair Haley, Charlita Earle, LaShaun Crosby, Hydi Kalmin, Cornell Wesley, Marvin Boomer and Sharon Williams. Each one is committed to making a difference in the lives of others. Together we helped students create personal statements for their college applications. There were moments I felt like I wanted to pull my hair out. However, we kept pressing on, encouraging the student to write and rewrite and write and rewrite and write and rewrite….
One of my mentors, Kevin Bracy shared the following thought with me…
They say, the best basketball players in the NBA make only about half of their shots, but they KEEP working on their shot.
The best quarterbacks in the NFL only complete about six of ten passes, but they KEEP working on their passing.
Major league baseball players only reach base 40% of the time, including walks, but they KEEP working on their swing.
Even with the consultation of expert geologists, the top oil companies strike oil in only one of ten wells, but they KEEP digging.
A successful TV actor is turned down 29 out of 30 times after auditioning for a role, but they KEEP auditioning.
So what’s important to keep in mind in our personal development ??? KEEP writing, shooting, passing, swinging, digging, auditioning…KEEP Speaking, KEEP Writing, KEEP Applying, KEEP Praying, KEEP Working, KEEP Studying, KEEP Trying, KEEP Moving, the diamond will emerge…
